The Week in Brief
This was our first week of Harvest Term, so we have new Circle Time material in our binders and a tweaked schedule (because I take every opportunity for tweaking schedules).
Everyone definitely had their good and bad moments this week, myself not excluded. Both boys are at a point in their math where each equation is a lot of work (long division and multiple-digit multiplication), but after 2 weeks of plugging away at it, of going back and shoring up our basic facts, and of imperviously continuing to require 100% before they are done for the day, they both progressed on to the next lesson this week — for both of them, more of the same, with even bigger numbers. But Hans passed his on the first day, and the remaining 6 lessons in Gamma should go quickly for him, I think. So now I need to focus on getting Jaeger through the tedium of three-digit by two-digit multiplication.
Week’s Books
This week both Hans and Jaeger began reading If All the Swords in England. Neither of them finished by lunch on Friday, but they were both over halfway done and will likely finish over the weekend or on Monday. They had a book club meeting this week with our friends down the street (while the younger set had “play dough club” here), for which they read Babe, The Gallant Pig.
I am currently reading Desiring the Kingdom by James KA Smith (very slowly), Hole in Our Holiness by Kevin DeYoung, and Art of Teaching by Gilbert Highet. 
Week’s Collage
A good, full week with progress made in math, Latin, and piano, as well as Elementary Lessons (history, geography/earth science, and Bible with neighbor-friends). I need to spend more time noticing the end – weathering the storm and emerging with learning – rather than spending so much time noticing and trying to fix the fact that there were storms. We – all of us – are certainly improving in getting back into fellowship when we lose it, but we’ve also had a lot of practice this week with that process.
If education is repentance, then we had it in spades this week. Ultimately, I guess that’s a good thing.
